To add to a previous article on ironing or pressing a quilt, we have some more information.
Alot of quilter's i have talked to always state: Press a quilt…dont iron it.
What they mean by this, is that when ironing a quilt, use the weight of the iron to "press" the fabric without having to move the iron back and forth across the surface of the fabric. This will allow the iron to do the work for you and will help protect the quilt.
As always, a good ironing board cover such as a Ezy Iron ironing board cover at www.ezyiron.com which will reflect the heat to help reduce pressing time.

We get his question all the time! Most quilters have their beloved quilts around the house that have been slept on, sat on or walked on for many years and now need a freshen up.
After researching this subjuect we have come up with several tips to get you started when looking to press your quilt.
It's a great idea to try to find out what type of fabric the quilt is made of. If yor quilt is made of sensitive materials or synthetics, it is a good idea to place a sheet over the quilt while ironing. this helps to stop the fabric sticking to the iron.
A hotter iron is preferred to make ironing easier however make sure you turn the iron down when ironing synthetic fabrics.
Also, a dry iron is preferred when ironing a quilt. When using a steam iron, the batting can become wet/damp and take a while to properly dry.
What we suggest, is using a small spray bottle of water to use at your discretion wjhen ironing.
As always we suggest you use a good sturdy ironing board cover as this can make the whole process easier. Ezy Iron ironing board covers are the quilters choice when ironing their quilts as they stay put and have Tontine fibre filling that hold s and reflects heat and will not retain the moisture.
Hope this helps.

Ironing boards come in many different shapes and sizes. Therefore it is essential to have a good fitting and good quality ironing board cover to make your job easier and more enjoyable.
You really need a good fitting ironing board cover that fits the board tightly, without wrinkles, and that doesn't move or slip when you iron a garment. There is nothing more annoying when a cover slips when you move a shirt or garment over the cover.
The best ironing board covers are ones that mould to the shape of your board and also have a tie or elastic to complete the fit.
You also should be looking for good quality fabric - basically material that is durable. It needs to be colourfast to prevent dye residue speading onto your valuable clothing.
A reversible ironing board cover is also a great option. Usually they already have padding or filling sewn into the cover so there is no need to purchase additional felt or padding. They normally last longer than a one sided cover - basically when you wear one side out, simply turn it over for a brand new cover.
It amazes me how many people purchase top quality ironing boards but have a rather dismal ironing board cover to go with it. To me, this is the most important part and will definately make your job faster and easier.

Look, most people don't like ironing. Although i must admit i have met many who absolutely love it. Many people find ironing relaxing and actually look forward to it!
Anyway, for the majority that don't like ironing, here are a few extra tips to make life easier.
- Put your ironing board somewhere that is easily accessible. I know this sounds simple but it makes it easier to just grab it and start ironing than having to search around and move things to get to it.
- Do your ironing near your bedroom or closet. You will be near hangers and drawers that will make the job a little easier. If you are ironing items for crafting, keep your ironing board and ironing board cover near your craft space.
- Remove clothes from the dryer just before they are entirely dry. This will reduce the amount of wrinkles your clothes get, thereby reducing the amount of ironing you have to do.
- If you're ironing a larger item, like sheets or a tablecloth, make good use of your ironing board cover. That is, don't use the narrow end, but rather the larger end. As you iron the item, move it away from you.
- As you iron, begin with items that need a lower heat setting. Gradually move onto items that require a higher setting on your iron.
Enjoy the job! With the right tools, specifically a good iron, a good ironing board cover , ironing can be fun!

Ironing gets a bad rap. The late humorist, Erma Bombeck stated, " My second favourite household chore is ironing". My first being hitting my head on the top bunk until i faint."
But ironing is not that difficult a job, and for many, it can be a lot of fun! If you have the proper tools like good ironing boards and good ironing board covers, it can be quite enjoyable.
Because ironing is almost an essential part of life, learning how to make it more enjoyable is critical. Here's some great ideas for making ironing enjoyable and maybe even therapeutic.
First, get yourself a good quality ironing board cover. You may have thought i was going to say a good quality iron but that's another point. But first consider the ironing board cover. If you are constantly doing battle with the cover then no iron can make up for that struggle. Make sure you find an ironing board cover that doesn't slip off the ironing board and facilitiates a nice slide of the iron over your clothes.
Second, make sure your ironing board is sturdy and stable. Again, there's nothing like battling the ironing board to make this job difficult.
Third, get a good quality iron. If you only have to make one pass to get a wrinkle out, you have already made your job easier. By the same token, if your cheap iron doesn't heat well or glide well, the ironing gets a whole lot harder.
